Get Out ( 2017)
The movie didn’t win an Oscar for nothing. In all honesty, this has one of the most twisted plots you’ll ever come across. The lead Chris Washington, a black man in love with a white woman, heading to her parent’s house – what can possibly go wrong? Everything. While it may start out as borderline racist, it is suspiciously horrifying, heading to a path you could’ve never imagined. Give it a watch and you won’t be able to stop talking about it to your friends.

The Silence of The Lambs (1991)
An absolute icon of a movie – who doesn’t know about Hannibal Lecter? Based on the popular book by Thomas Harris, and directed by Jonathan Demme, Silence of the Lambs is one of the best psychological thrillers ever made. Touching upon cannibalism, serial killing, and a hint twisted of romance, Silence Of The Lamb is as dark as it can get. There’s a sequel and prequel to this thriller – if possible, watch them all in one go – the ultimate movie marathon.

Zodiac (2007)
Starring a flashy cast like Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr, Zodiac is a psychotic thriller based on real-life Zodiac serial killings. The story revolves around the real-life case of a killer who murdered people in broad daylight and how a journalist joined forces with police to catch him. Sounds pretty straight forward right, but it isn’t. The way the killer was found takes the cake.

What happens when you’re vacationing with family and a group of attackers show up to kill you? The chilling part is that each attacker resembles a member of your family – a doppelganger of all of you. We don’t want to think how bad things can go for the protagonists – just give it a watch already.

Parasite (2019)
There’s more to the Korean entertainment industry than just BTS and heart-touching romantic dramas. One such gem of the Korean movie world is Parasite, an Oscar winner. Directed by Bong Joon-ho and starring a fantastic cast including Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, and Choi Woo-shik, this is a dark comedy thriller. The movie probes deep into the stark contrast between the lives of those struggling to make ends meet and the wealthy in Korea with a twist of murder and deceit.

The Shining (1980)
When the movie was first released, it was criticized and business wise made just enough to cover their bases. Almost 4-5 decades later, The Shining is a legend with one the best frightening story and thrilling chase scenes in history. What began as Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) just moving to an isolated historic resort as a caretaker with family soon takes a dark turn with paranoia and ghost appearances.

Joaquin Phoenix and his dance as the Joker is unforgettable. If The Dark Knight was your favourite movie of the Batman series then this spin-off of Joker with death, trauma, and gripping gory details will definitely have you hooked. From the start, you begin to feel for Arthur (played by Joaquin Phoenix) who starts to lose his mind to years of mistreatment only to end up becoming the – Joker. The details are unmissable.
