Azerbaijan is located in the Caucasus region, bound by Eastern Europe and West Asia. A former Soviet republic, the nation borders Russia to the north, the Caspian Sea to the east, Iran to the south, Armenia to the west, and Georgia to the northwest. The Republic of Azerbaijan is perfect if you are looking for a place with captivating mountainous regions, modern life, and ancient ruins. Azerbaijan has a total area of 86,600 km and is considered a nation possessing a high level of economic development and literacy rate.

The population of the Republic of Azerbaijan exceeds 10 million. Ethnically the people are called the Azerbaijani and they belong to the Turkic ethnic group, which combines Turkic, Iranian, and Caucasian influences.

Ganja is the second-largest city in Azerbaijan. Mostly renowned for its ancient and cultural charms, the city is home to many historical landmarks, the Nizami Mausoleum, the Bottle House, and the Heydar Aliyev Park.

Azerbaijan is known for its hearty culinary heritage. The rich and diverse dishes of the country take influence from centuries-old cultural influences and fusion of flavours from the Middle East, the Mediterranean, the Caucasus region, and Central Asia.

Plov, Tandir Bread, Qutab, Kebabs, Dovga, and Levengi are some famous and traditional dishes from Azerbaijan. The country is also famous for its pastries and Baklava.

Getting There

Azerbaijan has two main international airports, including Heydar Aliyev International Airport located in Baku, and Ganja International Airport located in Ganja. Transport in the country involves air, road, waterways, as well as railroads. The most favoured time to visit Azerbaijan is said to be during the spring months – somewhere between March and May, and the autumn months – between September and October.

Azerbaijan has come a long way with its incredible mix of nature, tradition, and modernity – the country is a true wonder for travellers and history buffs alike.
