Turning 53 this year, Stella McCartney, known for her drive for fur-free and leather-free apparel, created a huge shift in the fashion world – thanks to her love for nature and celebrity-studded clientele.
Born in London, England to English singer, songwriter, and musician Sir James Paul McCartney and American photographer and musician Linda McCartney, the fashion designer has cemented her professional reputation through years and her work in the fashion industry. From reestablishing Chloé to making Great Britain’s uniforms for the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games to making Meghan Markle’s wedding reception dress, Stella McCartney is a green-minded businesswoman and a force to be reckoned with.

The 53-year-old fashion designer launched her namesake luxury fashion house “Stella McCartney” in 2001 through a joint venture with Gucci Group (now Kering). She presented her first collection that October in Paris. Her revolutionary stance of banning leather, feathers, skin, and fur in her designs, both then and now is commendable. In 2022, she was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for her services to fashion and sustainability by King Charles II, adding to the Order of the British Empire (OBE) honor she received in 2013.

Famous friends
Stella McCartney who is one of the UK’s most celebrated designers during her graduation from Central Saint Martins in London in 1995, got the world’s most famous supermodels including Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss to walk in her show. Although her surname is recognized the world over, her moving work is adored by Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Kate Hudson to name a few. She also recalled her graduation incident and why she was probably hated by her fellow students at fashion school in the latest documentary ‘In Vogue: The 90s’.
The Iconic Falabella Bag
Stella McCartney’s Falabella bag which debuted in the Winter 2009 collection was a groundbreaking cruelty-free moment in the fashion accessory spectacle. The OG sustainable fashion designer made The Falabella the first luxury bag to be made without leather. [P.S. The bag is named after her favourite horse breed.]
Handcrafted by artisans in Italy, the Falabella is made from different kinds of sustainable materials including recycled polyester, vegan leather, apples, and grapes, as well as recyclable plant-based alternatives.
“ABOUT F* TIME”
Stella McCartney is still going strong with her sustainable approach to fashion. Continuing her sustainable fashion apparel, the designer recently partnered with the animal rights organization, People for the Protection of Animals (PETA) marking the launch of her Fall/Winter 2024 campaign as well as reimagining the group’s legendry “I’d Rather Go Naked” with “No Leather Ever” campaign during NY Fashion Week.
We’re taking our iconic “I’d Rather Go Naked” campaign to a whole nude level by collaborating with @StellaMcCartney for their #StellaWinter24 Campaign, because it really is #AboutFuckingTime we ended the use of leather.

Known for her ethically minded fashion approach, Stella McCartney also encouraged shoppers to stop using real animal-made leather goods through her latest “ABOUT F***ING TIME” Winter 2024 runway collection, inspired by her dad’s Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame moment 25-years ago. The message emphasizes living in harmony with the planet and its creatures.
Stella McCartney’s fashion empire is growing beyond sustainability and is doing so much more now than ever.
