Bridget Jones Is Back To The Big Screens—Stronger And Way More Chaotic Than Ever!

Bridget Jones is back, and things are looking a little different for her this time. The lovable, awkward, and often self-deprecating character, played by Renée Zellweger, is no longer dealing with the ups and downs of love with Mark Darcy by her side. Yep, you heard that right—Mark Darcy (played by Colin Firth) has sadly passed away due to a tragic accident. What does that mean for Bridget? It’s time to adjust to a new reality as a single mom in her 50’s.

In Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Bridget isn’t letting grief define her life, though. She’s got two kids, a chaotic love life, and a lot of new challenges ahead. We see her trying to figure out dating in a world full of social media, dating apps, and all the weirdness that comes with being an adult in the 21st century. However, she’s not wallowing—Bridget’s got two possible love interests this time around, so get ready for the drama, the comedy, and of course, all the things that make Bridget Jones, well, Bridget Jones.

Mark Darcy Is Gone, But Bridget Is Not Giving Up On Love

We are addressing the big change right away: Mark Darcy is gone. It’s a major blow to Bridget, who’s spent the previous movies obsessing over him, but Bridget is now a widow, and though she’s grieving, she’s not staying stuck in the past. This new movie is all about her moving forward with her life.

As a 51-year-old single mother of two, Bridget has a lot to juggle. There’s the struggle of being a mom, managing her career, and, yes, figuring out how to date when everything feels different. It’s a whole new world, full of swiping left and right, worrying about social media, and constantly questioning if her life will ever get any less complicated. With her quirky sense of humour and determination, she’s trying to make it all work. Sure, it’s hard without Mark, but this new chapter shows that Bridget’s journey is far from over.

Two New Love Interests—Who Will Win Bridget’s Heart?

Here’s where things get interesting: Bridget’s got two new love interests. The first is Mr. Wallaker (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor). He’s a teacher at her kids’ school, and let’s just say he’s got all the qualities you’d expect from a guy who’s good with kids and looks like he’s got his life together. He’s kind, caring, and age-appropriate—a nice contrast to the wild, chaotic love life Bridget’s had in the past.

Of course, life wouldn’t be the same without a little excitement, right? That’s where Roxster (played by Leo Woodall) comes in. Roxster is younger, unpredictable, and maybe a little bit of a bad boy. He’s the kind of guy your mom would definitely tell you to avoid, but Bridget? She’s got that ‘I can’t help it’ look in her eyes.

It’s a total love triangle, and honestly, who wouldn’t want to see how Bridget handles these two very different guys? Mr. Wallaker is the safe bet—reliable and steady. Roxster, on the other hand, is a gamble, but hey if anyone can make a wild decision and still make it funny, it’s Bridget.

Hugh Grant’s Back as Daniel Cleaver—But He’s Not the Same

For fans of the Bridget Jones series, Hugh Grant’s return as Daniel Cleaver is a big deal. If you remember Daniel, he was Bridget’s charming but often inappropriate ex. Well, guess what? He’s back, but don’t expect the same old player. At 60 years old, Cleaver is not exactly the guy he used to be. In fact, Grant has admitted there wasn’t even a clear role for him in this movie, but they found a way to bring him back.

You won’t see Daniel running around trying to flirt with every young woman in sight, but his return is still hilarious. Daniel is older now, a bit more reflective, and still very much Daniel. He’s crammed into the movie in a way that fans will love, even if he doesn’t exactly fit the mold anymore. It’s a chance to see how his character has evolved (or not) over the years. Even though Daniel Cleaver is no longer the main love interest, his presence adds a nice bit of nostalgic chaos to the story. It wouldn’t be a Bridget Jones movie without him, right?

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is set to release on 25 February, 2025. We cannot wait.
