Folks, a new Gen Z trend has been taking over the internet – and, to our surprise, it’s not mocking them but utilising their many infamous slangs to the ‘T’. This latest trend is letting Gen Z write the marketing scripts for the businesses they work with while the people reciting them are noticeably older, ironically, Gen X / Boomer.
‘Let Gen Z Write Your Marketing Script’ is a TikTok trend that has captivated the world of older businesses including Zoos, Bed & Breakfast, Colleges (We see you Oxford Uni), and Museum. Having your Gen Z staff members including interns write, edit, and direct the marketing script for the brand videos is helping businesses cash in. Adopted by many, this growing trend on social media is everything innovative and unapologetically hilarious.
It all began at Fyfield Manor in Oxfordshire, where the mother-daughter duo released the now viral Gen Z Marketing Script video. Since then, many have followed and the latest to join the bandwagon we think, is Oxford University and their ‘Latin slay’ had us in stitches.
Mostly beginning with “Hey, Bestie”, the origin of this trend is hard to find. While the trend is cute, hearing the Gen Z slang like “No Cap”, “Slay”, “It’s Giving”, “Brat Summer”, “Very Mindful, Very Demure”, and “Ate” from anyone who has crossed 35 is too much. If you have experienced adolescence, we know the cringe but bear with us.
On the bright side, this trend positively shines a light on the generational gap and differences. Hearing older generations using the new generation’s slang is heartening. The vibes of two different worldviews coming together are “pure”, as Gen Z would say. While these videos are funny enough, the power of meme marketing has once again found success.
In this day and age, the trend ‘Let Gen Z Write Your Marketing Script’ shows how Gen Zers and this trend are two-edged – both, good and bad. Maybe the companies have finally found the true value of Gen Z or it is just another clever technique for advertising until it becomes cringe.
With this trend, it’s also not clear who the joke is on, but the gag is still obvious. While we will leave it up to you to decide, the ‘Let Gen Z Write Your Marketing Script’ is truly giving us life. No cap.
